The class will cater to students who have already taken the intermediate AF class (French 2) and are looking to consolidate and expand their knowledge of French language and culture. On a weekly basis, the students will receive a selected text in French to read at home. Before they come to class, they should have already read the text and become familiar with the new vocabulary. The instructor will read the text in class. However as the semester progresses the readings will be done by the students with the instructor providing only support, if needed. Afterwards, the class will complete a variety of exercises, which will enable the students to buttress their comprehension of the text. The class will conclude with a debate based on the text. The goal of the class is to prepare French learners who already possess a good grammatical knowledge to use it spontaneously in order to feel comfortable to join an advanced conversation class (Salon – French 4) or a French book club.

No textbooks will be required for this class as weekly readings will be distributed in class and uploaded on Google Classroom. It is highly recommended for students to purchase a good dictionary, if they don’t already own one.

Students are expected to familiarize themselves and be able to use Google Classroom.

This class will be taught by Dr. Steven Apostolov.

All students enrolling in this class must be members of the Alliance Francaise of Newport.  The minimum membership is $45.  This can be purchased here in the “store” also.
